Capital Campaign

What a great first year for the Waconia Ice Arena! This beautiful facility, opened in 2008, has been remarkable. Membership in the local youth hockey program is at an all-time high. Waconia High School fielded teams for girls and boys. Local hockey families enjoyed real home ice for the first time, instead of driving to New Prague and Hutchinson. Countless local youngsters learned to skate. Figure skaters were able to secure much-needed ice time. And—most important—families from all over Carver County were able to enjoy a facility close to home! In short, the Waconia Ice Arena has been a huge success!

The arena would not have been possible without the generous contributions from so many families, as well as area businesses. The Waconia Hockey Association raised approximately $625,000 in cash and commitments for the facility! These commitments enabled the arena to be built. But there is still more work to do. Under an agreement with the City of Waconia, the WHA still must raise almost $400,000 to pay a substantial amount of arena debt. Some of these funds will be raised through our regular fundraising efforts, including our annual Golf Tournament and Wine & Cheese Tasting. However, the bulk of the funding we hope will come from our second arena campaign. This drive is kicking off at the Carver County Fair, with the goal to be completed by Dec. 31, 2009.
